    🏠 Negative gearing

What do you mean by justifiable? If it reduces my tax then it is justifiable by me. Is it logically consistent? Patrick has provided an answer to that. Can the government justify it? - they can justify anything they want since, after all, they seem to claim ownership to everything.

    Javier Milei

Hayek is great on many things but absolutely hopeless on this. I recommend reading/listening to Hoppe or Kinsella to get a good understanding of what libertarians mean by coercion, why we oppose it and why taxes are never justified. Both Rothbard (Rothbard vs The Philosophers) and Raico...

    Javier Milei

Agreed not perfect but good nevertheless. I wonder who his target audience was? Perhaps he was just having fun, I would if I was him.

Is a libertarian the same as a classical liberal?

Two good books that give a sense of this are Private Governance (Stringham) and Anarchy Unbound (Leeson). There are plenty of others.

    Javier Milei

If you haven't listened to Milei's speach at Davos 2024 it is worth listening to. I am surprised that Milei is not generating more interest in the libertarian community.

Is a libertarian the same as a classical liberal?

Fair enough. This reminds me of a response of Rothbard's that a libertarian is defined as someone who hates the State. I also agree with you that libertarian socialists have a stronger historical claim to the term but happy socialists are not my concern. My main issue though is the claim that...

🛡️ How did you become a libertarian?

Hopefully Australia doesn't have to go through what the Latin American countries have before we get a vibrant libertarian movement here!

    ₿ Bitcoin Alive | Sydney, March 2024

My question is based upon a single article, in Zerohedge from memory, that the US SEC was releasing new regulations that would require crypto exchanges to keep detailed records on each transaction with the aim of being to trace all flows through the exchange. Australia and the rest of the...

Conza, I am interested in your thoughts on the recent move by the US to break the crypto mixers?

Is a libertarian the same as a classical liberal?

Hi Mark. No I haven't listened to the podcast. This is an issue of particular interest to the yanks because the word liberal in the US has a meaning very different to the original meaning we are discussing. I understand that Europeans still use the term to mean classical liberal. Mill was very...

Is a libertarian the same as a classical liberal?

Thanks Mark, an interesting post but I don't agree. Classical liberalism is a philosophy which has the State at its centre and a key point of debate is the scope of the State. Classical liberals (the exceptions prove the rule) saw the State as essential for maintaining law and order...
