Interestingly enough — I've had discussions with an individual in the banking sector here in Aus at one of the big 4 - who is semi-involved in the building process.
He's a bitcoiner. Laying low amongst the bankers.

I asked "do these people actually know what they're building?"

He said "no", "except those far higher up".
 
In the Constitution only the Commonwealth has the right to issue currency. Therefore, need to get a Federal political party interested in supporting it. Problem may be that they'll try to outlaw all digital currencies. But at least if there is legislation preventing the federal government from issuing a digital currency that is a good start.
